FREEKRADIO was an independent internet radio stream founded in 2003 in Los Angeles by Kevin Ford, with the help of Jammes Luckett. The original aim was to play odd sound content acquired from Ford’s various “Mo-Freek” video projects, as well as music that he and his friends accumulated for soundtracks from their independent movie projects. The open-format of the radio stream allowed for Ford and his friends to create skits, radio shows, and also to play some of their favorite music from unsigned bands - including each other’s demos. In 2004 Ford relocated to Austin, Texas, and the station continued to ebb and flow. Over the years original content continued to be created along with various other sound experiments. Angela Bettis was a key player in making shows and bringing many new bands into the mix. By 2009, Jonathan DiMarco had joined and he helped to advance the station in many exciting ways - including Live DJ Broadcasting capabilities and - for the first time ever - running on an automated schedule. By 2010 FREEKRADIO was flourishing, broadcasting live from a small studio in North Austin. During that time Jammes Luckett even returned to the scene, offering up a fresh mix of holiday specials and other original programming. Brent Hanley, Chepo Pena, and Max Fathom also made original shows worth noting. At the end of 2011 - after 8 years of FREEKRADIO - Ford decided to put the project on hold, instead focusing more on his movie work.

In the meantime, Ford has branched out with Jonathan DiMarco and created a new internet radio station from Austin, Texas - RATTLECAN RADIO. Much of the original content from FREEKRADIO - songs & live recordings - will migrate over to the new station, but in general RATTLECAN is a whole new sound, style, and direction - an upbeat listening experience without the emphasis on Mo-Freek movies, talk shows, skits, and other elements that defined FREEKRADIO.
